Al Salam Readymade Garments Factory

Al Salam Readymade Clothes Manufacturing Company was recently established in Ismailia. Although the company’s founders worked in the field of importing ready-made clothing, the new added tax law and the decision to float the Egyptian pound prompted them to change their practices. A group of young company owners decided to enter the field of ready-made clothing manufacturing by establishing Al-Salam Ready-Made Clothes Factory in July 2016. The factory employs more than 200 workers working in the field of producing jeans for men and children. The founders were given a rare opportunity to develop their own corporate culture. However, it did not come without a set of challenges. Sameh Salama, one of the founders and director of Al Salam Readymade Clothes Factory, explains the difficulties they faced when trying to apply their policies to supervisors who had trained and gained experience in other companies. Management wanted to ensure good treatment of workers, in addition to emphasizing respect, commitment to following the rules, and no favoritism, but the supervisors had their own management style that was different from what was hoped. Commenting on the “Developing Supervisory Skills” training program, Sameh says, “We have all noticed the difference in behavior, whether toward management or workers.” He added, "Training has helped supervisors to be able to make optimal use of their work experience. A positive work environment also contributes to reducing the worker turnover rate. The longer the worker continues working for a longer period, the more we can invest in his training and thus give him more experience or create opportunities for development and advancement." ". Muhammad Ahmed, a supervisor and one of the training participants, explains that the “Developing Supervisory Skills” training program provided them with the opportunity to be able to meet the personal skills they lack. Muhammad confirms, saying, “The training affected me not only within work. It was not limited to work or production, but it extended to affect me when dealing with my family. If you look at the training from the outside, you may see that it is concerned with work, but in its essence it is concerned with developing relationships.” between the individual and others.” Muhammad Ibrahim, a supervisor and another participant in the training, confirms the impact of a positive work environment on production rates, saying, “Personal relationships create mutual trust between us and the workers, which means that I provide them with support and they in turn provide me with support, as they do not hesitate to provide assistance if I request it.” Some of them work extra hours when there is a delay in work or to meet deadlines or for any reason. -- The training program “Developing Supervisory Skills” is offered through Khotwa to improve the quality of work, as Khotwa aims to raise awareness of the importance of improving the quality of jobs and pave the way for small and medium-sized companies to achieve this. Khotwa's success is centered on building close collaborative relationships with SMEs across the country, thus making a fundamental impact on employability. Step activities are implemented under the umbrella of the Federation of Economic Development Associations (FEDA) and with the support of the Labor Market Access Project (LMAP) implemented by German International Cooperation (GIZ) on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
